Cheney, Wash. June 12, 2020: Residents in Cheney will witness history in motion on Wednesday, June 17, as the town’s historic 1929 Northern Pacific Railroad Depot is relocated from its original site along the BNSF railway to a new, publicly accessible location along 1st Street, near the railroad tracks downtown. After delays due to COVID-19 restrictions, Wednesday’s highly anticipated move is welcome progress in the effort to save the station, as crews from DB Davis Structural Moving (Everett, Wash.) have been prepping the building since early May. The most visible portion of the move is expected to take place around 10:00 a.m. when the depot is moved across F Street and the BNSF main line track.
